Corey Conners finished with a score of 15-under-par, with a bogey-free Sunday, and won by one shot over Sam Stevens. This was his second win on the PGA Tour, with both victories coming at the Valero Texas Open, the first in 2019 and the second in 2023<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2019 Conners was a nobody on the PGA tour. In fact, he had to win the Monday qualifier to get into the Valero Open. That year he went on to win the tournament and qualify for The Masters the following weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To say he loves the course would be an understatement. He is a perfect five-for-five in making the cut at TPC San Antonio, never finishing worse than T-35 and owns the low scoring average at the course since 2010.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the beginning of the day Conners trailed by one stroke to Patrick Rodgers and Sam Stevens. Both Stevens and Rodgers could have qualified for The Masters with the win. But Conners dashed their hopes early with three birdies on the front nine. Standing on the 10th tee, Conners suddenly had a 4-stroke lead heading into the back nine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When it was all said and done, he posted a bogey-free 4-under 68, one stroke better than Texas native Sam Stevens for the victory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Conners was already exempt into next week\u2019s major, where he\u2019s finished T-10, T-8 and T-6 in his last three Masters. Since 2019 his game has proven to be worth of Augusta and potentially a green jacket.
