Jon Rahm Claims Victory at 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions

On Sunday, Rahm shot a 10-under 63 at the Plantation Course of Kapalua Resort, making nine birdies and an eagle. This allowed him to come back from a nine shot deficit during the final round and defeat Collin Morikawa by two strokes.

“I feel like since August I’ve been the best player in the world,” Rahm said. “Earlier in the year clearly Scottie was that player, then Rory was that player, and I feel like right now it’s been me.”

The 28-year-old Spanish golfer capitalized on Morikawa’s mistakes on the back nine, securing his eighth PGA Tour win. Morikawa, a two-time major champion who was seeking his first win since the 2021 British Open, tied the largest 54-hole collapse in PGA Tour history after starting the final round with a six-shot lead.

Despite playing the first 67 holes without a bogey and adding three front-nine birdies on Sunday to extend his lead, Morikawa made bogeys on 14, 15, and 16.

Rahm’s comeback began with a birdie on the second hole, as his putter heated up (he ranked first in Strokes Gained putting for the week) and he made five birdies on the front. Despite being six strokes behind at the turn, Rahm’s rally was aided by a 5-under stretch, thanks to three consecutive birdies starting at No. 12 and an eagle at 15.

This victory in Maui could be the start of a big year for Rahm, as he has now won three of his last four starts.
