Jon Rahm Claims 4th PGA Tour Title in Last 6 Starts at The American Express

Jon Rahm secured his victory at The American Express PGA Tour event after a thrilling finish against rookie Davis Thompson.

Despite Thompson’s strong performance, Rahm was able to capitalize on his mistakes in the final three holes, ultimately winning by one stroke. This marks his second PGA Tour win in consecutive starts.

A fortuitous bounce on the 16th hole and an unfortunate break for Thompson on the 17th proved to be the deciding factors in the match. On the 16th hole, Rahm’s second shot on the long par-5 at PGA West’s Stadium Course appeared headed for a deep bunker, but instead landed on top of the bank and bounced away, allowing him to make birdie.

“I mean, he misses that tee shot. I put it on the fairway. That’s pretty much a half-stroke penalty right there. So I knew that if I did what I could do, I was most likely going to have a one-shot lead going to the last two holes and kept hitting the shot that I needed.”

Thompson finished second at 26-under after his final-round 69. Thompson had five eagles in his first 36 holes in a wild start for the 23-year-old. And even with the difficult loss, Thompson viewed the experience as a postivie learning experience.

“I had a great week,” said Thompson, who made five eagles through the first two rounds, tying the PGA Tour record for eagles in a 72-hole event. “Competing against the best in the world is my dream and I did that today and proved that I can hang with ’em. It was a lot of fun. A lot of nerves and I hit a lot of quality golf shots under pressure, which was really cool.”

Jon Rahm continues to dominate the golf world with his recent win at The American Express PGA Tour event. This marks his fourth victory in the last six starts, including two wins on the European tour towards the end of last year.

Additionally, this win extends his streak of top 10 finishes worldwide to seven consecutive events, dating back to the Tour Championship in August. With this victory, Rahm moves up one spot in the Official World Golf Rankings to No. 3, maintaining his position from his previous start.
