Tony Finau Wins Back-to-Back as the 3M Open and the Rocket Mortgage Classic

“I expected myself to contend and win again this year, so to be able to do it this late in the season when you’re running out of tournaments and you put that type of expectation on yourself, it’s so satisfying,”

Coming from behind at the 3M Open:

Playing catch-up proved to be the right formula for his third PGA Tour victory. Finau entered the final round trailing Scott Piercy by five strokes and recorded a closing 4-under 67, becoming the fifth player on the season to face a 54-hole deficit of five strokes or more and go on to win.

Domination at the Rocket Mortgage Classic:

Tony Finau has made a significant impact on the golf scene in less than a year. He dominated the Rocket Mortgage Classic on Sunday at Detroit Golf Club, becoming the first player in three years to win consecutive PGA Tour events during the regular season.

“I’m proud of the way I’ve fought through adversity in my career,” said Finau. “They say a winner is just a loser who kept trying, and that’s me.”

He completed the tournament with a 5-under 67, earning a five-shot victory and a tournament-record 26-under 262 total. This was his fourth career victory, with three titles achieved in the span of 11 months. He kicked off this stretch of success last August at The Northern Trust, where he secured his first victory in five years and 142 PGA Tour starts.

Most impressively, he hit 66 of 72 greens in regulation for the week, becoming the first player to hit 66 or more greens in regulation in a four-round event since Aaron Wise at the 2018 AT&T Byron Nelson.
